allergies and asthma

Testing and treatment capabilities at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital for infants and children with asthma and allergic disorders include: pulmonary function testing, methacholine challenge, skin testing for aeroallergens, penicillin testing, oral challenges for drugs and food, contact dermatitis, insect venom allergy and allergy to local anesthetic.

Other tests include, CT scan of nasal sinuses and hearing evaluation. Children may be referred to an audiology specialist for further evaluation and coordinated treatment.

Family consultation and education is an important component in a child's allergy or asthma management program. The treatment team works with children and their families to eliminate chronic problems from allergy or asthma triggers. Immunotherapy is an essential part of the treatment.
