gastroenterology

Members of the pediatric gastroenterology team at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital provide comprehensive services through the entire range of gastrointestinal problems, including inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), cholestatic liver disease, abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux and constipation. Pediatric gastroenterology procedures such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, among others, are performed in the hospital's state-of-the-art GI lab with video monitors.

Members of the GI team also provide nutrition support services for all patients and play a key role in monitoring and supervising parenteral nutrition.

The gastroenterology team offers a unique program with specialists in rehabilitation to resolve feeding difficulties, as part of the feeding and swallowing clinic in ambulatory care. The clinic's team works to retrain children who have lost feeding skills due to illness or injury or to resolve issues caused by organic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Hope Children's Hospital also hosts quarterly support group meetings to help families and children with Crohn's disease and inflammatory bowel disease learn about and cope with their chronic ailments.
