At Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, evaluation and management are provided for a wide range of nephrologic problems, including nephrotic syndrome, glomerular disease, vasculitis, hypertension, urinary tract infections and enuresis. Children with a variety of metabolic disorders, such as renal tubular acidosis, cystinosis, Lowe's syndrome and metabolic stone disease, are seen in the nephrology clinic.
A full-service dialysis program (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, hemoprofusion, continuous venous venous or continuous arterial venous hemofiltration with or without dialysis) and plasmaphoresis are available both acutely and on a chronic basis.
Physicians perform kidney biopsies under ultrasound guidance and conscious sedation. The section also participates in a number of clinical trials involving children with hypertension, renal failure, anemia and kidney transplants.
