Diabetic Clinic
Children with diabetes are seen at regular intervals at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital to evaluate the effectiveness of the individual management plan. A wholistic approach is taken to address the child's psychological, social and academic needs. Exercise and adequate nutrition for growth and development are emphasized.
Parents and children are educated on blood testing, insulin injections, insulin pumps and age-appropriate progressive transitions that will lead to the older child's acquisition of self-management skills. Because of the genetic factor in juvenile diabetes, the clinic team also provides evaluation and education services for other children within the family.
