What are the visiting hours and guidelines?
Visitors are limited to two per patient. For a visitation request of three or more visitors per patient, the reception desk will contact the patient care unit. Visitation by children under 12 occurs in the company of an adult and must be supervised at all times. Visitors must pick up a guest pass at the information desk. General visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the following exceptions:

*On MICU, SICU, PCCU and Sonte, children must be over 12 years old and accompanied by and adult.

Cell phone policy? No cell phones are permitted in the hospital.

Smoking policy? Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center has adopted a smoke-free policy in cooperation with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations for patients, staff and visitors. Smoking is not allowed in patient rooms, hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias or elsewhere in medical center buildings. Patients are prohibited from smoking except when authorized by a physician’s prescription. A dedicated outdoor smoking area is located outside the hospital on Nelson Street (north side of hospital). Smoking is not permitted on the hospital entrance ramp or Emergency Room entrance.

What are the amenities and conveniences such as lodging for visitors, gift shop and cafeteria?
The hospital has two apartments that can be rented for an overnight stay by members of a patient’s family. They are located in the Warren N. Barr Tower, adjacent to the hospital on Nelson Street. These rooms are usually booked in advance, but you may check theiravailability by calling patient relations at 773-296-8230.

For information regarding area lodging, contact the Chicago Convention and Visitors Bureau at 312.567.8500. Due to the frequently changing status of area hotels and motels, the hospital makes no official recommendations for lodging facilities.

The gift shop, located in the lobby, offers everything from flowers and cards to stuffed animals and clothing items. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Advocate Online Flower Shop can create and deliver unique, fresh or artificial, floral arrangements, as well as blooming and green plants to hospital patients and Advocate associates. Orders may be placed online 7 days a week, 24 hours a day but are reviewed and processed only during the retail shop's normal business hours. The retail shop, located at Lutheran General Hospital, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Our shop is closed on Sundays and major holidays. The Courtyard Caf is located on the first floor behind the information desk. The caf? serves hot and cold specialties, deli-style sandwiches, soup and dessert. The hours for the Courtyard Caf? are:

Monday through Friday — 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays the caf? is closed. Please use the cafeteria on the ground floor.

Vistors may purchase coffee, soft drinks and snacks from the vending area located on the ground floor on the east side of the building.

A business center is located in the volunteer office, Suite 1706, to provide a quiet location where visitors may conduct personal business while waiting for a family member to complete a procedure or return from surgery. A computer, phone and fax are available. The business center’s hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number for the business center is 773-296-7061 and the fax number is 773-296-5102.

Several hospital staff members are notary publics. For more information, contact the department of social work at 773-296-5930 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where do I park?
Valet service is available on the ramp at the main entrance of 836 W. Wellington. There are two parking garages the east garage at Wellington and Halsted, and the west garage at Wellington and the L tracks. Parking is charged at an hourly rate. If parking tickets are validated, the cost is $4. Validation may be obtained at the information desk in the main lobby or on the first floor of the Medical Office Center.

What if I have a complaint, concern or comment?
We realize patients, their family members or visiting friends may experience problems or have concerns regarding a hospital stay. If for some reason your stay and care have not met your expectations, ask to speak with the manager of the unit or department caring for you. If he or she is unable to help you, please call a patient relations representative at 773-296-8230.

If I have questions or concerns about paying my hospital bill, what should I do?
If you would like to discuss your bill, you should call a hospital financial counselor at the phone number on your billing statement. The financial counselor will review payment options that may be available to you. Such options include, applying for Illinois Medicaid, KidCare or Family Care programs, Illinois Crime Victims Fund, interest-free extended payment plans and charity care consideration. To help make the process easier to understand, Advocate can provide you a financial counselor who speaks your language.
