Our cancer center would not be able to offer the unique services and treatments it does without the support of its endowment. Investment income from the endowment principal is used to support cancer-related patient care at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, with an emphasis on psychosocial care.
Cancer has lost much of its lethal power in recent years, thanks to dramatic improvements in cancer prevention and treatment. However, even those people who undergo successful cancer treatment may suffer lifelong physical and psychological effects. An emphasis on improving cancer patients’ quality of life during and after treatment distinguishes the cancer center, and the endowment-supported Psychosocial Oncology Program and Gilda’s Club satellite help ensure cancer patients and survivors receive the individual and group support they need, free of charge.
In recent years, the endowment has helped us finish renovating several exam, consult and procedure rooms, and purchase laptop computers for use in those rooms. Among other things, the computers help physicians access their patients’ electronic medical records and retrieve educational information for patients.
