Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Again Recognized as Green Leader

Chicago, Ill. – April 26, 2013 – For the second consecutive year, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center has been recognized as an Environmental Leadership Circle Award recipient by Practice Greenhealth, a national organization for health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations.

As Practice Greenhealth’s most competitive honor, the Environmental Leadership Circle Award recognizes health care organizations that exemplify environmental excellence and are setting the highest standards for environmental practices in health care.

“At Advocate Illinois Masonic, we truly work as a team to meet, and often exceed, our green goals,” said the hospital’s Green Team Co-chair David Haas, who works in the Engineering Department. “This prestigious award is a testament to the ongoing commitment and dedication of everyone who works here.”

To be considered for the award, health care facilities must:

  • meet mercury-free criteria
  • recycle at least 25 percent of their waste stream
  • hold regulated medical waste to 8 percent or less
  • have implemented numerous other innovative pollution-prevention programs
  • be leaders in their community

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Ill., also received the honor. In addition, for the fourth consecutive year, Advocate Health Care won Practice Greenhealth’s System for Change Award.

The awards were presented at the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Summit during CleanMed, an environmental conference for leaders in health care, in Boston on April 25, 2013.
