Chicago, Ill. – July 16, 2013 – Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center today was ranked one of the best hospitals in the Chicago metropolitan area, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-14 Illinois and Chicago metro region rankings.
The 24th annual rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. In most, it ranks the top 50 hospitals and recognizes other high-performers that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers.
“We appreciate the national recognition the U.S. News ranking provides,” said Susan Nordstrom Lopez, Illinois Masonic president. “This is another validation of the hard work by our physicians and staff, as they continue to provide our community with innovative, high-quality care with the strongest health outcomes.”
Advocate Illinois Masonic was ranked as high-performing in the following specialties:
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery
- Ear, Nose & Throat
“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.A. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”
The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
