Harold M. Sy, MD, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. Following a surgical internship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Sy pursued his ophthalmology residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he received special recognition for research in 2005.
Dr. Sy went on to complete a subspecialty fellowship in the diseases for the cornea, anterior segment and refractive surgery with the Eye Consultants of Atlanta. As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Sy is a member of numerous professional societies, including the America Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
One of the Doctors Who Make History Dr. Sy has extensive hands-on experience with refractive procedures such as LASIK and PRK. In addition, his refractive repertoire includes the use of multifocal lenses such as the ReSTOR and ReZOOM lenses and the STAAR phakic intraocular lens. Dr. Sy is particularly well versed in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the cornea, with special interest in dystrophies of the cornia such as Fuchs’ dystrophy and keratoconus. Dr. Sy is skilled in corneal transplant surgery, employing both classic techniques and the latest DSAEK procedure.
