Maunak Rana, MD
Director, Pain Management Center
Dr. Rana has been named by the Consumers' Research Council of America as a Top Anesthesiologist. He is an internationally sought-after speaker on topics in anesthesiology and pain medicine. Dr. Rana is active in education programs and the formal evaluation of pain management anesthesiologists and physicians. He also participates in professional organizations with the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Rana is pleased to provide compassionate, leading-edge care to Illinois Masonic Medical Center patients. His goal is to help patients understand the source of their pain and to provide treatment for their discomfort in a safe and comfortable manner.

Kenneth D. Candido, MD
Chairman, Department of Anesthesia
As a leader in the field of pain management, Dr. Candido is active in a number of professional pain associations and has published numerous works on anesthesiology and pain. He has taught anesthesiology since 1989 and is currently a professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine’s Chicago campus.
Dr. Candido has received the Patients’ Choice award for 2008, 2009 and 2010 and was recognized as one of America’s Most Compassionate Doctors in 2010. He believes a patient and physician must establish a bond based on mutual respect, honesty and open communication.

Anthony Tharian, MD
Dr. Tharian is board-certified in pain management and has practiced at Illinois Masonic Medical Center since 2007. He completed medical school at St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, and his internship and residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. In addition, Dr. Tharian completed a fellowship in pain management at Loyola University Medical Center.
