• The first tongue-based robotic surgery to treat sleep apnea was performed by Michael Friedman, MD.
• One of the first hysterectomies with the da Vinci® Surgical System in the area was performed by Alvaro Mercado, MD.
• Abraham Shashoua, MD, performed the first robotic hysterectomy and myomectomy, a procedure for removing uterine fibroids, in Illinois. He also performed the first sacrocolpopexy, a procedure used to treat pelvic prolapse, in Chicagoland.
