The neurosurgeons at the Neurosciences Institute and Comprehensive Spine Center are committed to helping you achieve the best possible outcome for your condition. Our approach is to use the least invasive procedures with the most effective treatment options available for each patient. Treatments may include nonsurgical options such as pain management and physical therapy.
The center is home to several nervous system subspecialties, including brain tumors, aneurysms and spinal disorders, such as fractures, herniated discs, cervical and lumbar stenosis and lower back pain. We also offer a full range of diagnostic capabilities for occupational, repetitive and accidental injuries.
Collaborative Medicine for Best Outcomes
Because we strongly believe in the power of collaborative medicine, we work as a team with other disciplines and professionals at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to achieve optimal outcomes for our patients. This team may include experts from:
Treatment for Spinal Conditions
In treating spinal conditions, our skilled neurosurgeons treat the entire spine, often with minimally invasive procedures, which:
- Require less anesthesia
- Reduce recovery time
- Minimize post-surgical side effects while maximizing surgical outcomes
We provide treatments for a full spectrum of spinal disorders, including:
Treatment options may include:
Neuro-Oncology and Brain Tumors
Our neuro-oncology practice deals with the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and cancers of the brain and spine, as well as other neurological conditions associated with cancer.
In consultation with the oncology specialists at Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s Angelo P. Creticos, MD, Cancer Center, we routinely manage brain tumors, including:
Treatment can involve surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, depending on the size and nature of the tumor.
Head and Brain Injury
As with all our neuroscience programs, we collaborate with clinicians from other disciplines to offer the most innovative diagnostic and management strategies for patients with head and brain injuries and traumas. These patients are cared for by a broader team of experts, including:
These professionals use state-of-the-art diagnostic, resuscitative, surgical, ICU and monitoring techniques.
- Emergency Department physicians
- Level I Trauma and critical care surgeons
- Neuroanesthesiologists and neurocritical care nurses
We also evaluate and treat patients recovering from previous injuries and patients who require reconstructive surgery, repair of cerebrospinal fluid leakage or treatment of hydrocephalus. Essential physician support is provided by neuro-ophthalmology, plastic surgery and rehabilitation services as needed. Physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians and social workers also partner in a patient’s recovery once the injury has been treated.
