The Adolescent Health Center at Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for young adults ages 12 to 21 in an age-appropriate setting. The physicians in the clinic provide both primary care and consultative adolescent medicine services. The goal in the program is to consider all aspects of teen health, and develop the appropriate treatment plan for each patient.
The following common adolescent concerns will be addressed at the center:
- ADHD
- Acne
- Anemia
- Chronic fatigue
- Chronic health problems
- Comprehensive primary care for teens and young adults
- Eating disorders and nutritional problems including obesity and diabetes
- Fitness/healthy living
- Gender issues
- Headaches
- Puberty/hormonal changes
- Reproductive healthcare including menstrual problems, comprehensive family planning, STI prevention and treatment and routine gynecological care
- School failure
- Sleep disturbance
- Smoking cessation
- Sports participation physicals
- Substance abuse/addiction
Karen Bernstein, M.D., recently joined Advocate Medical Group as an Adolescent Medicine physician. She completed a three-year fellowship in adolescent medicine at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where her primary focus included high-risk behavior, reproductive health and eating disorders (including obesity).
