Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital 54-bed state-of-the art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides critically ill newborns a second chance in a model healing environment. As one of the largest facilities of its kind in the Chicago area, the NICU cares for more than 800 infants each year and is designated by the state of Illinois as a Level III nursery. As a Level III nursery, this means we can provide infants with highly specialized care unavailable at many other area hospitals. Our critical care transport team transfers more than 300 mothers and infants annually from other area hospitals to Lutheran General Children's Hospital for advanced care.
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit features:
A multidisciplinary team of specialists led by a board-certified neonatologist who specializes in the care of premature and critically ill infants and is trained to treat a wide variety of health problems
Pediatric subspecialty trained doctors available for consultation and treatment through Lutheran General Children's Hospital
Each baby area equipped with its own set of monitors, energy sources, medical and ventilation equipment and a bedside computer system for automated access to all medical records and reports.
Family lounge with a restroom, shower, telephone and television
Even though your baby's medical needs require that he or she be cared for in the NICU, you are still the most important person in your baby's life. Your baby knows your voice and needs your touch. We encourage parents to talk to, touch and participate in the care of their baby as much as the medical condition will allow. Parents may visit virtually any time of day or night. NICU has 24 hour visitation for parents. Two people are allowed at each bedside, with one being a parent. During flu season, visitors are limited to parents and grandparents only.
