Pediatric Oncology
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 9,000 children under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Adult and childhood cancer differ in a number of ways, including development, treatment, response to therapy and prognosis. In most cases, childhood cancer is more responsive to therapy and the prognosis is better. Through the Advocate Center for Pediatric Research and the Children’s Oncology Group, researchers are continually working to find new and better ways to improve children's health and treat childhood illnesses.
Sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, the Children’s Oncology Group is the largest multi-center research organization in the United States. Through this group, all children treated at Lutheran General Children’s Hospital are offered participation in the most up-to-date national protocols and research trials available.
