Support Services Child Life Program The Child Life Program helps children cope with hospitalization and illness through play therapy and special activities, such as horticulture therapy, puppy therapy, photo journaling, dance/movement therapy and more. Children’s Health Resource Center The Children’s Health Resource Center is located in the children’s outpatient pavilion, which houses the Lekotek Center, pediatric library, and the Emily Dorfman Learning Center. The library offers a full range of educational materials, with internet access. The Lekotek program adapts toys to a child’s abilities, to decrease the stress and frustration a young child feels when he or she cannot maneuver a toy because of a handicap. The Dorfman Center is an educational center that provides hands on interactive educational experiences through the use of models, a medical play area, videos and games.Family Support Program The Family Support Program is multi-faceted and strives to meet the needs of the entire family: children, parents and siblings. Play activities, discussion, and special outing in an informal setting are some of the ways we interact with each of these distinct groups. (A separate group is available for teens.) A parent network has been established to assist families from the time of diagnosis through treatment. Supportive parents are available to talk, visit, share their experiences, and to help in many ways.Pastoral Care Program The Pastoral Care Program provides numerous services to patients and families including a music therapy program which makes music available to patients according to preference — individual cassette players or live music. Patients are assisted in maximizing the benefits of listening to music for pain management, relaxation, relief from stressful noise and spiritual comfort.Learn More About Our Physicians |
