The Child Life Internship
The Child Life program at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital offers internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate level students pursuing a career working with children and teens in a health care setting. Internships are available to students who have completed necessary course-work in a child-related field. The Child Life Department offers full-time placements for both independent students and students obtaining course credit. Practicum placements, which is considered less than full-time coverage, are also available. Although less structured than a full-time internship, this placement focuses on basic awareness of the needs of hospitalized children, adolescents and their families through direct patient involvement. Child development and family relations
Human services
Psychology
Education (early childhood, elementary or special education)

Our internship program is designed in accordance with the standards for clinical preparation programs set forth by the Child Life Council. It consists of both standardized components and individual choice rotations adapted to the interests of each student.

Clinical rotations are designed to give interns direct contact with patients and families, while working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Interns focus on meeting developmental, educational and therapeutic play needs of hospitalized children and teens.
