Student Internship Program
Thank you for your interest in a Child Life internship at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. This site will provide you with information regarding our program, suggestions for pre-internship reading and course-work, and an on-line application. If you are interested in pursuing a Child Life internship placement with us, please complete the on-line application and call the Child Life department to schedule a visit. The Child Life InternshipThe Child Life program at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital offers internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate level students pursuing a career working with children and teens in a health care setting. Internships are available to students who have completed necessary course-work in a child-related field. The Child Life Department offers full-time placements for both independent students and students obtaining course credit. Practicum placements, which is considered less than full-time coverage, are also available. Although less structured than a full-time internship, this placement focuses on basic awareness of the needs of hospitalized children, adolescents and their families through direct patient involvement. Our internship program is designed in accordance with the standards for clinical preparation programs set forth by the Child Life Council. It consists of both standardized components and individual choice rotations adapted to the interests of each student. Clinical rotations are designed to give interns direct contact with patients and families, while working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Interns focus on meeting developmental, educational and therapeutic play needs of hospitalized children and teens. The Child Life department at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital strives to make the internship a rewarding experience, filled with educational opportunities as well as professional and personal gratification.
