Oncology Clinic Services
When a child or adolescent is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected. At Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital, we understand the challenges faced by our patients and their families. Our goal is to make it easier to live with cancer and its treatment. One of the ways we help is by offering special services through the Child Life program for patients of the Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Specialty Clinic. These services include:
- Support and assistance for all family members, including siblings
- Encouragement and activities to distract and occupy patients during invasive procedures
- Play materials that are age and developmentally appropriate for patients
- Monthly family oncology support groups
- Referral to other helpful organizations, resources and wish granting agencies
- A school oncology program
