Child Life Services

Child Life We understand the difficulties faced by young patients and their families during a hospitalization. That’s why the Child Life Program at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital offers a wide range of services designed to assist before, during, and after a hospital visit. Patient Education
Patient education is a key element in assisting patients and families feel more at ease about upcoming medical procedures and hospital stays. Child Life specialists work with the medical staff to provide essential information and to familiarize patients and families with medical facilities. Among the many areas of patient education provided by Child Life staff are:
  • Preparation for medical procedures
  • Pre-surgical tours
  • My Hospital Scrapbook
Given to children when they are admitted to the hospital, this book teaches pediatric patients about medical care and helps prepare them further for upcoming procedures. It also serves as a support during their hospital stay and provides a journal for self-expression. (Created by Child Life Services' Linda Bensing and sponsored by Lutheran General Children's Hospital service league.)
  • Medical play
