Pediatric Physical Therapy

Physical Therapists provide evaluation and treatment to make children as independent as possible with their mobility. This includes helping children learn how to roll over, sit by themselves, crawl and walk. It also includes teaching children how to use a new piece of equipment such as a walker or wheelchair. A large part of our program involves working with families to teach them how to help their child at home. We also collaborate with other rehabilitation and medical professionals. Therapy sessions are usually one hour in length and are provided in a child friendly environment with use of toys to encourage active participation.

Our pediatric physical therapists have expertise in the following areas:

  • Rehabilitation of congenital/acquired diagnosis such as: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome, gait abnormalities, traumatic brain injury, meningitis, seizure disorder, prematurity, Brachial Plexus injuries, Torticollis and Plagiocephaly.
  • Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT)
  • Serial casting
  • Pre-operative instruction in care/exercises and Intensive post-operative program (after orthopaedic surgery)
  • Aquatic Therapy
  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
  • Threshold Electrical Stimulation (TES)
  • Lite gait Treadmill training
  • Evaluating for equipment (wheelchairs, Standers etc), orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Kinesiotaping for muscular imbalances and facilitation
  • Spasticity management (hypertonicity/hypotonicity) including therapy post Botox and post Baclofen Pump.
  • Use of Theratogs and the Therasuit for improved alignment in conjunction with physical therapy.

Our experienced pediatric physical therapists work with children. We are credentialed to provide therapy through the Early Intervention System of Illinois. In addition, all of our therapists have NDT education and some are NDT trained in Pediatrics and Baby. Additionally, some therapists have certification in Pediatric Clinical Specialization from our professional organization, the American Physical Therapy Association. All therapists attend continuing education courses to stay abreast of changes in our clinical practice of Physical Therapy.
