Because the treatment of congenital heart disease in children has been so successful, there is a growing need to continue to treat these children as they reach adulthood (over 18) and beyond.
To respond to the specialized needs of this growing population, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has opened the Adult Congenital Heart Clinic. The clinic is designed to provide a seamless transition in care from adolescence through adulthood for patients and families living with congenital heart disease.
We care for all common congenital heart defects including:
A Multidisciplinary Approach
The Adult Congenital Heart Clinic is different than most other clinics in and around the Chicago area. A multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and social workers collaborate to create a customized treatment plan for the patient. If the patient was referred by another physician, that doctor will be kept up-to-date on care and treatment needs. A referral is not required.
The treatment team strives to provide superior outcomes using a clinical approach that may include comprehensive disease management, state-of-the-art technology, research and education. All diagnostic tests are available on-site.
