Angioplasty and stent placement are two ways to open blocked arteries. Angioplasty is a procedure to open narrowed or blocked arteries that supply blood to parts of the body. A stent is a small metal mesh tube that expands inside an artery and is left in place to keep the artery open
When arteries become blocked with fatty material called plaque that builds up inside them, a condition called atherosclerosis develops. Atherosclerosis can lead to stroke, heart attack and other harmful conditions.
