We offer volunteer assignments in over 80 hospital departments. Our goal is to provide you with a meaningful volunteer experience by matching you with opportunities that best match your interests and preferences. However, assignments and their availability change frequently and sometimes we are not able to offer you an opportunity that fits your schedule. Please make a note, we do not offer any shadowing opportunities.
Important consideration - majority of openings are available Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. Evening and weekend opportunities are the most popular and become available less frequently.
Art Cart– Help put a smile on our patient’s faces by joining our Art Cart Team. Team members will assist in making various arts and crafts such as tissue paper flowers, sports badges and pennants and various holiday themed items to distribute to hospitalized patients, sharing conversation and stories while doing so.
Shifts available: Fridays 10am-2pm.
Clerical opportunities - volunteering in an office-type setting providing services such as labeling, stuffing envelopes, filing, answering phones, computer data entry. Depending on the requirements of a specific department, the tasks may range from simple clerical tasks to more complex data-entry duties.
Shifts are available Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. No weekends.
Expressions program - It happens gradually...A person may forget something or get confused and you would say "Happens to everyone!" then you start noticing it happens more frequently... Memory loss is one of the signs of Alzheimers. To help patients deal with early memory loss, we have developed an amazing program called Expressions. This outpatient program focuses on activities that help keep patients' minds active through creative arts, discussions and various activities. And we need your help.
Under the supervision of the program coordinator, our volunteers assist with the following tasks: carrying out activities and projects; helping patients with exercises (hand and put away equipment only; no adjustments of body parts or direct physical contact with patients); projects set-up/take down; meals set-up.
We are looking for volunteers with the following characteristics and qualifications: outgoing individual who loves interactions with older adults with early stages of Alzheimers/dementia; sensitivity to memory loss; great opportunity for individuals with background in social work, counseling, psychology, nursing, geriatrics, music therapy or art therapies; high school graduate.
Shifts are available Mon - Fri between 11am-3pm. No weekends.
Flower Shop - you will be surrounded by beautiful flowers and enticing fragrances as you assist customers in our Flower Shop. You will be helping with merchandise selections, using the cash register to process payments, answering phones to take orders, delivering flowers to patients as well as restocking merchandise and helping with the upkeep of the shop.
Shifts are available Mon – Fri between 9:30am-5pm. No weekends.
Gift Shop - an amazing selection of thousands of beautiful items requires an expert to help customers select the perfect gift for their loved ones and this will be your role! In addition, you will be helping with merchandise checkout, restocking and delivering items to patients. If you are an outgoing and energetic person who likes interacting with others, you will enjoy this opportunity.
Shifts are available 7 days/week between 8am-8pm
Guest Services area - make a lasting first impression by walking our patients and visitors to their destination. Very busy opportunity that involves a lot of walking, occasionally pushing a wheelchair or a cart, yet it’s very fulfilling and rewarding. Just imagine hearing a customer thank you for taking your time to show them their way around. You are their hero for the day! It's a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy meeting new people and don't mind spending their volunteer shift walking and standing. Examples: information desks, lobbies, waiting rooms, registration desks etc.
Shifts are available 7 days a week between 8am and 8pm.
Mail Deliveries– volunteers in this position will pick up mail from specific hospital locations/departments and deliver it to the main hospital mail room. Also assist with miscellaneous clerical duties. This opportunity requires volunteers to be on their feet for the length of the shift and the ability to push a cart with mail.
Shifts are available Mon-Fri between the hours of 9am-2pm. No weekends.
Patient Care Equipment - our clinicians need equipment and supplies to care for our patients and your role will be to help deliver those items to nursing units. Fast-paced opportunity in a dynamic department. Perfect for those who like the challenge of learning a lot in a short period of time and getting to know the whole hospital.
Shifts are available 7 days/week between 8am-8pm
Patient Service areas - depending on the specific department, volunteer tasks may involve assisting our patients through activities such as wheelchair service, providing conversation, sterilizing carts, walking family members to surgical waiting areas, passing fresh water and magazines. Examples: Transportation department, pre-surgery department, ambulatory surgery, GI department.
Depending on department, shifts are available 7 days/week between 8am-8pm.
Physician Mailroom– If you are an individual who likes to get up early in the morning and enjoys spending time in good company chatting about current events, sports while distributing medical reports and U.S. mail.
Shifts are available Mon-Fri 7:30-10:30am. No weekends.
Radiology– Volunteers in the outpatient radiology department assist staff by attending to patients in the waiting room (providing comfort items or walking to testing areas). Provide assistance to radiology department staff with clerical tasks, room set up etc. Make a note – you will not be able to observe patients undergoing testing.
Shifts are available Mon-Fri 8:00am – 4pm
Sterile Processing Department – volunteers in this position will assist with putting away overstocked supplies and trays of clean equipment used in surgical procedures. This position requires volunteers to be on their feet for the length of the shift and the ability to push carts with supplies. In addition, volunteers will need to wear hospital issued scrubs instead of a volunteer uniform and have a clean pair of gym shoes to be kept at the hospital.
Shifts are available Mon – Fri 12-4pm
