Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Lutheran General Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Reverend Kevin Massey, M.Div, BCC, as vice president, mission and spiritual care for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. Massey will assume his role on January 23, 2012.
“We are excited to welcome Kevin back to Lutheran General,” said Anthony A. Armada, president, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. “His leadership and experience will be a valuable addition to the mission and spiritual care department and the executive team.”
In this position, Massey will oversee departments including spiritual care and chaplaincy, clinical pastoral education, music therapy, clinical ethics and volunteer services.
Massey is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and served as a trauma chaplain and spiritual care trainer with Advocate Health Care from 1999 until 2005. He began working at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in December 2005 and served as Assistant Director, Acting Director and Program Director for Lutheran Disaster Response. He was active in supporting and leading work through dozens of disaster response efforts including the 2005 hurricanes, the 2008 Midwest floods, and the 2011 tornadoes, floods, and storms.
“Kevin brings a long history with Lutheran General and Advocate, and a deep passion for living out our mission, values and philosophy in caring for those we serve,” stated Kathie Bender Schwich, senior vice president, mission and spiritual care for Advocate Health Care. “He will be a strong addition to Advocate’s mission and spiritual care team.”
Kevin earned a Master of Divinity in1993 from Luther-Northwestern Seminary, St. Paul, MN; he was a Fellow in1988 at the Center for Arabic Study Abroad, American University in Cairo; and he earned a BA in Linguistics with Distinction, 1987 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
