The American Cancer Society's (ACS) Patient Navigation Services TM is the cornerstone of the Ana Speranza Miller Resource Center, which is located in the first floor lobby of the Center for Advanced Care.
This unique center is staffed by a full-time specially trained ACS social worker who helps cancer patients, families and caregivers make informed decisions about their care at the same place where treatment is provided.
Housed within an inviting wood-and-translucent glass oval-shaped structure, this comprehensive center is the first in the northwest suburbs and one of only a 16 in the entire nation. It is on Lutheran General's campus because the ACS recognizes that the hospital is a center of excellence for cancer care.
By visiting the center, persons will be "guided" to essential information and resources they need about:
- various types of cancer
- prevention and screening recommendations
- state-of-the-art cancer care and treatment options
- innovative research and clinical trials
- counseling
- education opportunities
- health services
- support groups
Questions ranging from lodging, transportation and financial assistance, referrals, insurance issues and peer-to-peer support also will be answered. In addition, free literature, access to American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute and other health-related online resources, and a quiet reading area are offered at the resource center.
