Advocate Lutheran General Hospital again has been recognized as one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals in The 2010 Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks study. This is Lutheran General Hospital’s 13th time being recognized since the study began in 1993.
The prestigious Top 100 Hospitals award is given to hospitals which have shown that high-quality patient outcomes can be achieved while improving efficiency. Lutheran General earned its spot in the overall top 100 list by being acknowledged as one of the top 15 major teaching hospitals in the country.
“The ‘100 Top Hospitals’ designation is further proof that Lutheran General’s clinical excellence and patient safety achievements are recognized on a national level,” said Anthony A. Armada, FACHE, president of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. “Our commitment to always being the best has put us in the position of being among the elite, consistently top-performing hospitals in the country, and we are proud to be able to offer that level of care and service to our community.”
According to Thomson Reuters, if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in the award-winning facilities such as Lutheran General Hospital:
• Nearly 116,000 additional patients would survive each year.
• More than 197,000 patient complications would be avoided annually.
• Expense per adjusted discharge would drop by $462.
• The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.
“This is a true credit to the excellence of our medical staff who, in close partnership with our dedicated nurses and associates, drive outstanding care, service and satisfaction,” said Armada.
