Cardiovascular Testing
Fast, accurate diagnosis is critical in caring for heart patients. At Advocate Lutheran General Hospital we pride ourselves in clinical excellence and leading edge diagnostic techniques. Cardiac diagnostic tests typically address conditions of the heart, while vascular diagnostic tests identify conditions of the vascular system (arteries and veins). How Vascular Disease is Diagnosed
Vascular disease is diagnosed both by physical examination and special testing. When blood is not flowing properly through the veins and arteries, it can cause a variety of problems affecting the heart, kidneys, liver, or legs. Vascular problems are common and can be serious.
Two types of techniques currently available for diagnosing lower extremity arterial disease. Information from these tests helps your physician decide on a diagnosis or further testing. Noninvasive tests do not require the use of needles, dyes or x-rays. Special technology is used to evaluate flow and pressure within the vessels at rest and with exercise. This type of test is painless, has no known risks or side effects, requires no special preparation and may be performed on an outpatient basis. Invasive tests typically require more preparation and longer recovery.
