The Kendall Smith Scholarship is named after a young, vibrant volunteer whose dream was to become a social worker for chronically ill children and adolescents. Unfortunately, Kendall was not able to fulfill her lifelong ambition. She suffered from Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening chronic disease that is caused by a defective gene and affects the lungs and digestive system. Kendall lost her brave journey to CF on November 2, 2009, at the age of 19.
