Expertise You Can Count On
Most parents say the #1 benefit of having a baby at Lutheran General Hospital is the confidence that comes from knowing you have advanced medical expertise available. Lutheran General Hospital provides Level III obstetric, perinatal and neonatal services, the highest level of care designated by the state of Illinois. This means we have the doctors, nurses and equipment to care for high-risk mothers and babies 24 hours a day. In fact, in many cases involving a mother or newborn with complications or an emergency situation at another area hospital, the mother or her newborn baby are transferred to Lutheran General Hospital. Mother and baby benefit from facilities designated for high-risk pregnancies, deliveries, and maternal care, as well as a skilled clinical staff of lactation educators, social workers, care coordinators and therapists.
Increasing your knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood can ease anxiety and boost confidence. We offer many classes to do just that including breathing techniques for labor management, breastfeeding, infant care, bathing techniques for newborns, grandparenting, emergency first aid and childbirth education classes in English and Polish.
Once you've decided to deliver your baby at Lutheran General Hospital, please notify the hospital of your expected delivery date by completing pre-admission forms for yourself and your child. Pre-admission allows the hospital to prepare for your delivery and verify your insurance coverage.
Meeting Your Needs
Every baby's birth is unique-and so are the needs of the parents. That's why early and ongoing communication is essential for the best birthing experience possible. Our innovative, flexible care plan allows moms who are anticipating a normal delivery to determine the way they want to give birth by determining their labor and birth needs with their doctor, and defining their expectations, such as preferences for labor positions, pain control and more, prior to delivery.
Beautiful Surroundings for the Big Event
Our labor-delivery-recovery rooms offer the comfort of homelike decor, soft lighting and an easy chair for you and your guest. Each room also contains a bathroom, television, VCR, stereo and fully equipped medical station for routine deliveries. In short, it's a cozy setting designed to maximize your comfort. Register online for a tour of the OB unit, or call 1.800.3.ADVOCATE.
Our family-centered philosophy is evident in every aspect of your care. You'll be pampered and supported by compassionate nurses and other health professionals. Dedicated registered nurses will remain with you throughout labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum, so as you and your baby get to know each other, we can focus on your family's specific needs.
