Clinical Research
The cancer care field is constantly evolving and we at Lutheran General Cancer Care Center are participating in those changes. Lutheran General Hospital is unique in Illinois and one of a select group of community hospitals in the nation to offer the range and breadth of clinical research studies usually associated with a university hospital in the community setting. For example, we are investigating new and better techniques for transplantation of autologous bone marrow and peripheral stem cells. Another area of research is biologic and immune therapy.

In addition, we have over 50 clinical trials open at any given time including national cooperative group studies from the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, the Gynecology Oncology Group and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. We also are participating in pioneering chemoprevention studies of potential cancer prevention drugs: cisretinoic acid for lung cancer and head and neck cancer, low-dose aspirin for colorectal cancer and tamoxifen for breast cancer.
