    • Diagnostic Mammography and Ultrasound
      • These services are for patients where an abnormality was detected on the screening exam.
        • Only the breast that is of concern will be imaged.
      • This type of exam is also for women with a history of breast cancer.
        • Often both breasts are imaged in follow up.
      • The exam is performed on a digital mammography unit.
      • Often a diagnostic ultrasound is performed following the mammogram to more clearly define the abnormality.
      • The exams will require a written order from your physician.

    • Some of these problems may include:
      • Calcifications
      • A breast mass
      • Discharge
      • Nipple lesion
    • If a patient does require a biopsy, he or she will be evaluated by a surgeon at the breast center prior to the biopsy procedure.
    • The patient will also meet with one of the nurses at the center who will explain the procedure, assist with scheduling, and follow up with the patient to assure that the patient has an advocate and resource during this very stressful time.

  • Surgical evaluation
    • If a patient is in need of a biopsy or other interventional procedure it is very important that they be seen by a surgeon for a physical examination.
    • The surgeon will discuss with the patient the findings of the prior mammograms and/or ultrasounds, and explain the best options for treatment.
  • Nursing consultation
    • All of the nurses at the Caldwell Breast Health Center are trained breast health specialists/educators. They have received special additional training in breast care that allows them to work one-on-one with women to evaluate a patient’s symptoms and act as a resource to understand treatment options, answer questions and offer support.
