Oncology Specialists Oncology Specialists, S.C., is a private practice of oncologists who have offices on the second floor of the Cancer Care Center and are part of the hematology/oncology division at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Besides focusing on therapy for all cancers and diseases of the blood, the team has expertise in treating specific types of the cancer. These specialized areas of care include breast, prostate, lung, colon, head and neck, and gynecological cancer, along with unusual and difficult diseases such as melanoma, sarcoma and lymphoma. The clinical team also includes professionals in nursing, pharmacy and laboratory services. For each patient who requires chemotherapy, a primary nurse is assigned who collaborates with the physician in the delivery of care. The primary nurse provides patients and family members with ongoing information, and takes personal responsibility for administering treatment, assessing symptoms and side effects, responding to questions, and consulting with the physician. Through its research institute initiatives, Oncology Specialists conducts and participates in cutting-edge clinical trials for a wide range of cancers and blood diseases, including past studies that have led to FDA approval of new cancer drugs. |
