Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Center

The only one of its kind in the north and northwest suburbs, the Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Center (CRRC) is designed to aid in the identification, reduction and management of risks associated with cardiovascular disease. Developed by Advocated Lutheran General Hospital, and consistently ranked among the nation's top 50 cardiovascular programs by the U.S. News and World Report, the CRRC is comprised of a unique spectrum of key services essential in the fight against heart disease:

  • Cardiac Risk Assessment
  • Diagnostic Testing
  • Lipid Clinic
  • Anticoagulation Clinic
  • Heart Failure Clinic
  • Vein Clinic

Under the guidance and care of our skilled medical staff and specially trained professionals, patients participate in diagnostic evaluation and receive education on disease and lifestyle modification. Our team of physicians and clinicians empower patients who have a cardiac condition as well as those who are at risk for developing heart disease to make changes to improve and protect their health, with individually tailored treatment and risk-reduction plans.

Cardiac Risk Assessment
The Cardiac Risk Assessment is a tool designed to identify modifiable risk factors that contribute to the onset of heart disease. This one-on-one assessment is performed by specially trained nurses. Assessment results are used to develop a risk reduction plan that is tailored to the needs of each individual. The assessment includes:

  • Lipid Panel (includes total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides)
  • Glucose Screening
  • Blood Pressure Reading
  • Heart Rate Evaluation
  • Weight Assessment
  • Personal Health History
  • Medical and Family History Evaluation
  • Electrocardiogram (to monitor heart activity)
  • Ankle-Brachial Indices (to evaluate circulation in the legs)

Diagnostic Testing
Non-invasive diagnostic testing of the vascular system is conveniently offered on-site for patients of the CRRC.

Lipid Clinic
The Lipid Clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and management of patients with high cholesterol. A team of physicians, nurses and pharmacists work together to determine the most effective course of treatment for reducing lipid levels. Each patient's progress is monitored, tracked and reported to the patient's primary physician.

Anticoagulation Clinic
The goal of the Anticoagulation Clinic is to assist in the monitoring and management of patients using oral anticoagulants, such as Coumadin, on a short- or long-term basis. Pharmacists on staff at the clinic provide quick, convenient blood testing and dosage adjustment as well as counseling and education for patients.

Heart Failure Clinic
The Heart Failure Clinic offers patients aggressive management of congestive heart failure. A multidisciplinary team of physicians and pharmacists work together to develop a plan of care tailored specifically to each patient's needs and lifestyle. The clinic's optimization of medical therapies, patient education, nutritional counseling and frequent follow-up assist patients in leading fuller and more active lives.

Vein Clinic
The Vein Clinic combines state-of-the-art diagnostics with the expertise of vascular surgeons, cardiologists and interventional radiologists. This collaborative, interdisciplinary team partners with primary care physicians to offer the best therapeutic options and disease management possible to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from vascular diseases of the brain, aorta, kidneys and legs.
