Event Recorder
Your physician has recommended that you use an event recorder to better evaluate the condition of your heart. The event recorder is a recording device that will record and transmit (send) information about your heartbeat, related to symptoms that you are experiencing. Results from this device will help your doctor decide the best course of treatment for you.
Using Your Event Recorder
Over the next 30 days, with the help of the event recorder, you will make recordings of your heartbeat whenever you have symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, fainting, etc. You will then transmit the recordings over the phone to a special service, so that the recordings may be evaluated by your physician and cardiologist.
You are encouraged to make recordings and use the service whenever you have symptoms. Keep in mind that you will not incur any additional charges no matter how often you use the service during the 30 day time period. However, it is important that you do not transmit after the 30th day because you will incur an additional month of billing if you do so.
If you make a recording that enables diagnosis of your condition during the first week of using the event recorder, you may not need to keep it for the entire 30 days. In addition, if the service notes something in your recording which your physician should know about right away, they will call your doctor.
You will have the opportunity to practice using the event recorder while you are in the Heart Station. It is also a good idea to do a practice recording and transmission to the service once you are home so that you are comfortable using the device.
Event Recorder for Post-Symptom Recordings
This device is a "real time" recorder that records information about your heart during or after symptoms occur. When you have symptoms, you will quickly press the device to your chest, then press the button to record. When you make a recording you are encouraged to call the service and transmit the recording as soon as possible. The device holds four one-minute recordings.
Event Recorder for Pre-Symptom Recordings
The event recorder for pre-symptom recordings is a device with memory. To use this type of event recorder, you must apply three patches to your chest. The skin where the patches are placed must be clean and dry. No creams or powders should be used. Change the patches daily.
When you have symptoms, press the "green" button. The device will record information about your heart both one minute before and one minute after you have pressed the button. Once you have made a recording, call the service and transmit the recording(s). The device will hold up to four recordings.
Sending Recordings
To send recordings, call the service at 1-800-421-0055, place the telephone over the device (as shown in the picture on the device) and push the "send" button. Once the recording(s) is/are sent, the device is clear and ready for new recordings.
Service Hours
The service is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Questions/Problems
The service is always ready to answer any questions you may have or help you with transmissions.
