"As a parent I feel that my children are well supervised, provided with a fun, stimulating environment with a nice variety of activities to keep them happy."

Located at the Avoca West Elementary School in Glenview, the Before-and-After School Care Program for school age children from Kindergarten to 5th Grade was established in 1988. It serves the Avoca School District 37, which encompasses Glenview, Wilmette and the surrounding communities.

The before-and-after School Program provides a range of interesting educational and social activities, which support and complement the grade level of the specific children enrolled. It provides a familiar but different setting for school age children to further develop skills, form friendships and discover hidden talents through enrichment programs.

Supervised activities and projects keep young school age children active and safe during out-of school hours. More important, these activities are planned to challenge and support continuing self-discoveries and growth.

Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday during the school year, including vacation days, the program has a licensed capacity for 70 children. The program converts to a full-day summer camp in the summer vacation months. The summer camp program offers training for junior camp counselors, age 13 to 15 years old.

It is accredited by the National School Age Care Alliance (NSACA). It is one of only twelve accredited programs in the state of Illinois and of 307 in the country. It is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

In keeping with licensing and accreditation standards, staff/student ratio is 1 to 12. Highly trained staff utilize the school facilities: classroom space, library, gymnasium, playing fields and playground to create program activities, which foster socialization and cooperation. Indoor and outdoor team sports, cooking, music, story telling and dramatic play are incorporated into the program together with quiet time for table games, relaxation, conversation and homework, as needed.

Parents are welcome at all times. A Parent Advisory Council assists with special programs, fundraising, and organizing family dinner parties.

"My wife and I are absolutely delighted with the Day Care Center and the people who work there. Our son is very happy there and we look forward to sending our younger son when he is old enough."
