Health Care for Women of All Ages

Health Care for Women of All Ages

We recognize that a woman’s health needs change throughout her life. From birth, through childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, childbirth and childrearing, middle life, menopause and maturity, our women's health services provide some of the area’s best primary care and specialty physicians, programs and educational classes.

Along with some of the finest specialists in obstetrics and gynecology, a state-of-the-art Birthing Center, and Level III perinatal services, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital also provides unique services specifically geared to women: maternal fetal medicine focusing on the care of the high-risk obstetrical patient; gynecologic oncology specializing in female cancers; urogynecology specializing in the treatment of incontinence and bladder disorders; comprehensive surgical services; as well as caring and compassionate mental health professionals offering family therapy, stress management and help for women dealing with disease, addiction and other concerns.

Specialty centers for women include:

  • OB Unit, with family focused care and Level III obstetric, perinatal and neonatal services, the highest level designated by the State of Illinois.

  • Caldwell Breast Center, a comprehensive care facility that provides women with answers about their breast health quickly and conveniently. Services include diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, localized biopsy and multidisciplinary support.

  • The Comprehensive Continence Center offers a full range of surgical and non-surgical treatments for persons suffering from incontinence and other bladder conditions.

  • The Comprehensive Osteoporosis Center features DEXA scanning. This non-invasive, pain-free bone density measurement often can help physicians diagnose and treat osteoporosis in its early stages, when the condition is most treatable.

  • The Women's Health Resource Center
The Women’s Health Resource Center helps women and their families obtain information related to their medical, emotional and spiritual health needs. The Center houses a comprehensive lending and reference library with thousands of books, videos, and audiotapes, leading health newsletters and magazines, current articles, and hundreds of brochures providing education on numerous medical conditions and diseases. Additionally, the Center features the "HIM" section (Health Issues for Men), Internet access, and other health software programs highlighting current diagnostic and treatment information regarding women and family health. The staff is available to assist visitors and callers in researching the information they are seeking.

In addition to serving as a link to the community in educating visitors about hospital services, support groups, community and national resources, the Center sponsors year-round women's health educational programs and special events at the hospital and in a variety of community and business locations to assist women in making more informed health care choices. Assistance in customizing programs to fit audience needs is provided by women's health specialists.
