Lutheran General Hospital Gala Beneficiary
Women's Health Initiaives
The women in our lives are our mothers, wives and daughters. Our sisters, aunts and grandmothers. Their roles have changed and grown over the years, but one constant remains—women are the caretakers of their families. Oftentimes women are so concerned with their family’s welfare, they put their own health second. But when they get sick, everyone they care for suffers, as well: their children, their spouses, their aging parents.
From child-bearing years through middle age through the golden years, women have unique health needs at every stage of their lives—needs that are different from those of men. And the number of women who need specialized health care services is growing. Pregnancies and deliveries are more likely to be high risk as more women start families later. And as the baby-boom generation ages and life spans increase, an unprecedented number of post-menopausal women face increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
A 100 Top Hospital and a major provider of health care services in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has made women’s health a priority. Recognizing how disruptive it is to so many lives when women must travel far from home to access the technologically advanced and comprehensive care they need and deserve, we have developed a variety of programs and services to provide the highest-quality care, close to home.
As great as Lutheran General Hospital’s commitment is, however, the health needs of the women we serve are greater still. The 2013 gala will benefit the following women’s health programs:
• Maternal Fetal Medicine
• Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery
• Cancer Survivorship
