  • Personal Information: Once a city girl, Minh-Y now lives with her husband and daughter in the Western Suburbs. In her free time Minh-Y keeps busy watching her daughter explore and grow, spending time with her family and friends, singing, playing piano, traveling, and cooking.

We have patient diversity both socioeconomically as well as ethnically. We are a referral center for a large part of Southwest Chicago and Northern Indiana and because of that we see a good mix of general pediatrics + sub-specialty. On all our rotations we work one-on-one with the attendings who are at Advocate Children's Hospital - Oak Lawn not just because they love kids but also because they enjoy teaching the residents. This was one of the most striking things I have learned about the program--the faculty genuinely want to invest in you as a pediatrician and help you grow and become your fullest potential. And lastly, there are lots of opportunities to continue the academic side of medicine from teaching medical students to presenting research posters."
  • Personal Information: Corrie enjoys backpacking- from the Olympics in Washington to the Dominican Republic she has slept in tents and climbed mountains. She believes that nothing, however, compares to the Tetons in Colorado.
  • Goals and Accomplishments: Corrie presented two posters at the Advocate Research Forum in 2011 including Suspicion for Systemic Lupus Erythematosis and a case series of leukemia cutis presenting in teenage males with AML. She currently has two QI projects, one involving improving time to first neonatal follow-up and the other on CXR use in asthma. Corrie is on the Pediatric Ethics Committee. Corrie is interested in Critical Care, and will be co-chief resident for 2013-2014.

  • What I like about Advocate Children's Hospital - Oak Lawn: "I like the diversity in terms patient ethnicities (African-American, Polish, Arabic, Asian), patient demographics (urban and rural, rich and poor) and mixture of both common and rare diseases.  I like that we get to see patients with high acuity diseases or injuries. We see the most complicated congenital cardiac diseases that rival any academic institution in the country.
     
    I like the family feel between residents and attendings. It's very easy to approach everyone, from community attendings to general faculty to subspecialists. I can say without a doubt that the primary goal of all the general faculty here (other than patient care of course) is teaching. I have never been left with a question unanswered.

    I love my fellow residents. I am comfortable asking any of my fellow residents for help or to cover me if I need. I think resident dinner is a great Saturday night outing. They have truly become my friends in addition to coworkers."
  • Personal Information: Josh loves sports of all kinds. He will talk about or play almost any sport you can think of. He is generally a very quiet guy, unless the SF Giants are winning the world series or the US Women's soccer team is scoring last second goals to stave off elimination. Josh also loves fantasy sports, and is involved in 2-3 football, basketball, and baseball fantasy teams yearly.
  • Goals/Accomplishments: Josh has matched for Pediatric Cardiology, and will be joining the fellowship program at University of Michigan in 2013. Josh is involved in multiple research projects with the cardiology program here at Hope. Josh recently received a grant from the AAP to study the correlation of abdominal near infrared spectometry with meeding intolerance in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome following Stage 1 Norwood Palliation.
