Ann Achufusi, MD
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergrad: Loyola University of Chicago
Medical School: UIC College of Medicine

Why Masonic: Well before my interview day, I knew UIC/Illinois Masonic would be one of my top choices because of its strong reputation for producing excellent family physicians, great curriculum, and supportive faculty and staff. After my interview day at Masonic, I knew this was the program I wanted to be a part of.  I think this is the happiest residency program around, and I’m so happy to be here!!!  Plus, it’s in the great city of Chicago, and the lakeshore is my new playground – it can’t get any better than this.
Professional Interests: Women’s health, Geriatrics, Mental health, Underserved medicine
Personal Interests: I enjoy hiking, running, spending time with my family and friends, catching up on news stories – ask me what’s in the news today.

Julie Holt, MD
Hometown: Grand Rapids, MI
U ndergrad: Hope College (Holland, MI)
Medical School: Loyola University - Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

Why Masonic: The people and the overall attitude of the program. Masonic is a place where patient centered care is the priority, and that is taught in a collaborative and caring way. The program clearly cares about the residents and our learning, but also our happiness. This is the foundation to create a great family medicine physician.
Professional Interests: Women's health, OB, pediatrics, procedures
Personal Interests: I love to spend time with my husband and dog, friends and family, preferably sharing a good meal (and wine) that we cooked or at a great Chicago restaurant. I also enjoy reading, movies, being outside and on the water in the summer, and attempting to run.

Meredith Maxey, MD
Hometown: New Richmond, Ohio
Undergrad: Ohio University
Medical School: University of Cincinnati

Why Masonic: One of the first things I heard about the program was how tight-knit the residents and faculty were.  This was very evident on my interview day, and it played a major role in my decision to come here.  I was also looking for a program with a strong pediatric presence in our continuity clinic.  Finally, it was important to me to have a solid foundation in evidence-based medicine and quality improvement.  I found all of those things (and more) in one place at Masonic!  (And let’s be honest, the location definitely doesn't hurt either ?)
Professional Interests: Pediatrics, adolescent medicine, quality improvement, evidence-based medicine
Personal Interests: Go to movies, try new restaurants, read, travel, swim, camp, whitewater raft – just to name a few!

Courtney O'Bryan, DO
Hometown: Greenwood, IN
Undergrad: Indiana University
Medical School: Midwestern University/Chicago College of Medicine

Why Masonic: From my very first interaction with the members of the FM department at Illinois Masonic, I knew that this was a group of caring and patient focused physicians that created an environment where collaboration and support was not the exception, but the rule. Everyone involved in the program genuinely cares for one another and it extends beyond the walls of the hospital or clinic into everyday life too! The next few years will bring many challenges, but I look forward to them knowing that I will never be without the help and guidance of my Illinois Masonic FP family!
Professional Interests: Women’s Health and Sports Medicine
Personal Interests: I love to explore all the culinary offerings Chicago has to offer, yoga and all things sporty, spending time with my family and friends, and supporting my INDIANA HOOSIERS! Go IU!

Justine Parker, DO
Hometown: Elmhurst, IL
Undergrad: Wellesley College, baby!
Medical School: Midwestern University/Chicago College of Medicine

Why Masonic: I chose Masonic because of its reputation for rigorous training, exposure to the patients that come to a level 1 trauma center, the opportunity to learn from midwives and physicians who use the alternative birthing rooms, the faculty’s experience with research and interest in supporting residents’ research, the real support for advancing my OMT skills, and—of course!—the depth of heart and connection in the program.
Professional Interests: Women’s health, clinical research, osteopathic medicine, alternative birthing.
Personal Interests: I like to eat all the Ethiopian & Middle Eastern food north Chicago has to offer, make ceramic organs and bones, watch our fruit trees grow, dye our dog’s hair, read Mary Oliver, drink sparkling wine, listen to Xmas music, run along the river, antique and thrift store shop, and spend time with my super awesome wife, Lia.

Gloria Redondo, MD
Hometown: Shelby Township, MI
Undergrad: University of Michigan
Medical School: Rush Medical College

Why Masonic: I chose Masonic for many reasons (behavioral health, women’s health opportunities, holistic approach, wine tasting!), but most of all, because of everyone I met and the strong sense of support.
Professional Interests: Women’s health, behavioral health and urban underserved
Personal Interests: I love exploring restaurants in Chicago, working out, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

Lem Smith, MD
Hometown: Southfield, MI
Undergrad: University of Michigan @ Ann Arbor
Medical School: Ohio State University

Why Masonic: Aside from Chicago (especially Lakeview) being an amazing location to work and play, the easy-going work atmosphere I saw on my interview day made Masonic stand out. The residency is academically rigorous but these folks know how to play hard as well!
Professional Interests: International medicine, urgent care, ultrasound, procedures
Personal Interests: In my spare time, I enjoy producing music, DJing, reading, painting, traveling, going to concerts, and being a foodie

David Supik, DO
Hometown: Cleveland, OH
Undergrad: Miami University (Love and Honor!)
Medical School: Midwestern University/Chicago College of Medicine

Why Masonic: I chose Masonic because of the amazing sense of camaraderie that existed among residents and faculty alike.  I immediately saw physicians with an extraordinary dedication to family medicine, yet find time to ardently pursue personal passions outside of the hospital, and a work/life balance that I strive to emulate.  I also loved the idea of practicing in a strong community hospital setting (where family medicine thrives), yet benefit from the strong academic presence through the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Professional interests: Full-spectrum primary care, sports medicine, education, and manipulation.
Personal Interests: I like to explore the city of Chicago--sites, festivals, beaches, sporting events, and good eats.  I also enjoy boating, traveling, exercising, biking and cheering for my cursed Cleveland sports teams.
