Where will the Advocate Research and Innovation Forum be hosted in 2013?

In order to maximize participation and awareness, Advocate Health Care is hosting the Forum at each three of its Chicagoland and teaching sites (Christ Medical Center, Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Lutheran General Hospital) with an open invitation across the system. Advocate Health Care values our ongoing scholarly endeavors and wishes to recognize and celebrate our successes while allowing investigators and all interested to come together and share our discoveries.

What are the exact dates, times, and room locations of the site events?

Forum Dates:

Lutheran General Hospital:  Wednesday, November 13, 2013 - Grainger Atrium / Olson Auditorium
Illinois Masonic Medical Center:  TBD
Christ Medical Center:  TBD

Is this forum a contest and will an award be presented as in years past?

Yes, there will be a multidisciplinary judging panel at each individual site forum. This panel will choose a Best Overall Poster Award Winner with the Principal Investigator receiving a $500.00 award. Other awards may also be presented.

Will this be exclusively a poster forum?

No, the forum will also include educational breakout sessions, and oral presentations to showcase our projects judged to be some of the best.

Are all abstracts that are submitted accepted for presentation?

No, because of the historical response to this call for abstracts and the space available, we will need to limit presentations to those that are deemed acceptable by our judges in the peer-review process. Those submitting abstracts should consult with Department of Research staff for guidance and advice on drafting competitive abstracts.

Who will pay for poster printing?

The cost of poster printing is the responsibility of the principal investigator or their department.

What is the acceptable time frame for research which has been previously presented at an external conference?

As an internal conference, we do encourage new presentations of external conference posters. We are allowing abstracts for posters which have been presented since January 2010.  However, data that has been previously presented at the Forum will not be accepted.

What is the expectation regarding "unfinished" projects?

As part of viewing the forum as a showcase as well as an educational event, we welcome investigators to submit "preliminary data results or outcomes" in order to share and discuss their ongoing projects.  We do require there to be preliminary results of data collected thus far.

Is Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval necessary?

All research poster presentations require IRB approval, however case reports / case series and improvement projects may not - contact the IRB with any further questions. Case studies and quality improvement projects do have other requirements from a privacy/HIPAA perspective. Please contact the Department of Research staff for more information.

What types of projects should be submitted?

All types of projects are welcome as we celebrate and showcase all Advocate scholarly accomplishments. We would expect investigators to represent a cross section of Advocate including but not limited to Administrators, Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, Allied Health Practitioners, Pharmacists and Students / Trainees.

In summary: ALL Advocate associates and attending physicians are welcome and encouraged to participate and showcase their discoveries.

We welcome any additional questions you may have. You can email us at advocateresearch@advocatehealth.com or call 630.929.6129.
