Residents receive exceptional procedure experience with more than 500 cases. Biplane digital subtraction filmless angiography equipment is available. Illinois Masonic is one of few hospitals offering lymphangiography training.
- Mammography
Residents spend 12 weeks learning the basics and advanced techniques of breast imaging including screening and digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and biopsies.
- Night Float/ER
Call is covered through a night float system, with daytime ER coverage provided by the ER resident. As a busy community hospital and level 1 trauma center, hands on experience is extensive.
- Neuroradiology
Case material referred by neurology and neurosurgery coupled with a busy trauma center ensures extensive neuroradiology experience. Hands-on experience is extensive.
- Nuclear Medicine
Radiologists work with cardiology fellows and attendings to perform nuclear cardiology investigations in radiology. Resident training is supplemented by an intensive weekly lecture series on radiochemistry, radiobiology and radiation physics. Additional training is provided through a one-month rotation at Loyola University during fourth year.
- Research
Clinical research opportunities relating to all disciplines of radiology are available and encouraged. At minimum, participation in one research project is required to successfully complete the program.
- Ultrasound
More than 9,000 diagnostic ultrasound examinations are performed annually, including all ultrasound subspecialties.
