Advocate South Suburban Hospital announces Q3 MVP winners

NOV. 20, 2013 - Advocate South Suburban Hospital has honored five associates as MVP Value Leaders for the third quarter of 2013. The MVP (Mission, Value and Philosophy) Program recognizes associates, physicians and volunteers who go above and beyond in demonstrating Advocate Health Care's core values of Compassion, Excellence, Partnership, Equality and Stewardship.

  • Shuron Shelton, a dietary aid, was recognized as the third-quarter Value Leader in the value of Compassion.  Shelton, a resident of Hazel Crest, Ill., earned her award for personally providing outstanding care and service to a patient of the hospital’s skilled nursing facility who was feeling hopeless after losing a degree of independence.
  • Munster, Ind. resident, Jeffry Gray has been honored as a Value Leader in the value of Excellence.  Gray, an education consultant in the hospital’s Center for Learning, was recognized for his outstanding leadership of the School at Work program at Advocate South Suburban Hospital.  Gray’s organization, tutelage and guidance prepared the program’s student for higher education, which they all will pursue in order to further their careers.
  • Ineke Cummings (Chicago), Janet Striegel (Matteson, Ill.) and Rogel Villanueva (Crete, Ill.) were honored as the first-quarter Value Leader for their Partnership.  The trio led a multi-disciplinary team that standardized all life-saving emergency equipment carts in the hospital, thereby increasing access to critical supplies and enhancing patient safety.

By living Advocate values, associates, physicians and volunteers fulfill the mission of caring for individuals, families, and communities. Through daily demonstrations of MVP, associates show how important they are to our care team. Advocate Health Care’s values are:

  • Compassion – Unselfishly care for others, responding to others’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Equality – Recognize and appreciate people for who they are. Treat all people with respect, integrity and dignity.
  • Excellence – Strive to do the best job possible. Pursue new ideas to improve care, service and quality.
  • Partnership – Take a team approach to benefit customers, other associates, patients and Advocate Health Care.
  • Stewardship – Solve problems rather than passing them on. Take responsibility for actions. Use time and resources wisely.
