pain management

The Pain Management Clinic at Advocate South Suburban Hospital offers a full range of services and the latest treatment options for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain.

Working with your primary care physician, our specially trained staff will evaluate and develop a personalized plan of care, based on a professional diagnosis, that will help you manage and reduce pain and lead a healthier, more active life.

Conditions Treated

The Pain Management Clinic treats a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions including:

  • neck and back pain
  • degenerative disc disease
  • sciatica/herniated disc
  • sports-related pain
  • burning and/or shooting pain involving arms and/or legs
  • unresponsive cancer pain
  • shingles pain
  • headaches
  • other types of pain

What to Expect

Following a comprehensive physical examination and thorough evaluation of your medical history, a personalized treatment plan will be developed with you. The focus is on treating your pain and teaching you how to play an active role in managing your pain. This provides the confidence and independence needed to reduce pain and regain control of your life. Depending on your condition, your plan may require only few visits, or an ongoing schedule of treatment for those with chronic pain.

Easing your pain is a collaborative effort between the pain management physician, your primary care physician and you. Our pain management physician will: review treatment plan recommendations with you and your doctor; personally monitor your course of treatment; and forward all medical records to your primary care physician. Our staff will educate you on the implications of pain in your daily life and explain how to manage discomfort at home.

Specially Trained Professionals

Staffed by board-certified anesthesiologists, with specialized training in pain management, Advocate South Suburban Hospital's Pain Management Clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach to help patients manage pain in all aspects of their life. Depending on the plan of care developed for you by our certified pain management physicians, your multidisciplinary team of caregivers may also include:

  • registered nurses
  • physical therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • counselors
  • social services representatives

Physician Referral

A referral from your primary care physician or self referrals are accepted to participate in the program. Insurance coverage will be verified by our staff prior to your first visit.
