Our recently expanded Family Birth Center welcomes more than 1,000 new babies into the world each year. Your labor, delivery, recovery and comprehensive postpartum care, as well as specialized pediatric care for your new baby, will take place in comfortable surroundings designed for you and your family.

With a highly skilled medical team and state-of-the-art technology, you can trust South Suburban Hospital for the birth of your baby. Family Birth Center physicians specialize in obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics and neonatology. They have the education, specific training and years of experience to provide expert care for you and your newborn. We also use an advanced electronic monitoring system that allows your obstetrician to obtain complete information about your condition when away from the hospital.

Our computerized central fetal monitoring and a Level II neonatal intensive care nursery that provides 24-hour care means we can deliver a combination of state-of-the-art services and nurturing care in a secure environment.

For your comfort and convenience, there's always a personal registered nurse available for you and your baby. Your nurse will help see you through labor and delivery, recovery and postpartum care – until the time you bring your baby home.

Many Labor and Delivery Options
The way you choose to deliver your baby is a personal decision. So our Family Birth Center offers many options. Our single-room maternity suites are private rooms that offer all the comforts of home. Caesarean section rooms are also available for those with special needs or preferences. And after delivery by Caesarean, you'll return to your suite to complete your full recovery.

Rooming In and Visitation
Your baby can stay with you as long as you prefer, and family visitation hours are flexible to meet your needs.

• In-home comforts such as TV, stereo, dining area, rocking chair and reclining lounge chairs
• Larger Caesarean section rooms
• A private lounge in the nursery for families to visit with and care for high-risk babies

• A state-designated Level II neonatal intensive care nursery with 24-hour availability of neonatologists, doctors who care for premature, low-birthweight and other high-risk newborns
• Centralized fetal monitoring that allows physicians to monitor the baby's heart rate during labor from a remote location
• Advanced pain control methods, including epidural and patient-controlled continuous epidural
• Fetal Oxygen Monitoring System providing a more complete and accurate assessment of the baby's condition in the womb.
• Thirty physicians on staff who specialize in obstetrics/gynecology
• Specially trained nurses, many of whom are certified in nursing skills focused on mother and infant care

Education for You and Your Family

• Comprehensive prenatal classes to educate you and your partner about fetal growth, breathing techniques, labor and delivery, childcare and breastfeeding
• Sibling classes for brothers and sisters centered around welcoming the family's new addition, complete with a tour of the nursery
