Melanoma: A Patient’s Guide Your physician will tell you how frequently you need to be seen. In general, the earlier the stage of your melanoma, the less chance that it will recur. The purpose of visiting your physician regularly is to diagnose a recurrence early and to watch other moles closely for changes to detect any new melanomas while they are very thin and curable. If you have been diagnosed with a later stage melanoma, you will probably need to see your physician more frequently and may also require blood tests and X-rays or CT scans periodically to check for recurrence. In general, your risk of recurrence is higher in the first year after diagnosis and declines as each year passes. Melanoma - A Guide For Patients |
