Ski Machines Cross-country ski machines allow you to enjoy the benefits of skiing on the snow while remaining indoors. Cross-country skiing is an excellent aerobic exercise, non-impact and involving upper and lower body. Cross-country skiing machines do require more coordination and a longer learning time than some other forms of exercise. Types: Nordic Track makes the most widely used type of cross-country ski equipment. The legs push wooden ski-like rails against a variable-resistance flywheel. A cable system attached to a pulley simulates the skiing arm movement. Upper-body resistance is also adjustable in some models. Another type of skier uses fixed arm poles to work the upper body. Instead of wooden rails, foot platforms are pushed along two rails to work the lower body. Arm and leg resistance is adjustable. This type of machine has become less popular in recent years and there are few models available. Price Range: $299 to $769 Nordic Track also makes an institutional-grade skier for $1999 Desired Features:
