Seniors: Ways to Feel Tip-Top
- Keep bone density high with weight-bearing exercises, like walking, dancing, cycling or lifting weights.
- A good rule of thumb: Don't eat too much, too rich, too fat or too late.
- "Surf the Internet" - if you don't know a lot about computers, take a class, and communicate with people who feel as passionately as you do about the environment, education, travel, cuisine or other issues you enjoy.
- Become a label reader and eat your way to good health.
- Feeling tired and low on energy? Watch your body respond and revive with only 30 minutes of exercise a day.
- Eating breakfast is the key to revving up your metabolism. Breakfast eaters may burn more calories throughout the day because they jump start their metabolism early.
- For a heart-healthy amount of soluble fiber, eat one and a half cups of cooked oatmeal. Research shows that eating this amount daily may help lower cholesterol.
- Entertain often, yet simply. Try a brunch. It's a simple and delicious way to catch up with friends, and still have the afternoon to enjoy your own activities.
- Partner with a neighbor, friend or family member to make exercising social and more fun. Plan walks in the morning or late afternoon, or join a fitness center together. Chances are, you'll keep each other motivated.
