Choosing Advocate Health Care As Your Research Partner

Advocate Health Care, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, is the largest fully integrated not-for-profit health care delivery system in metropolitan Chicago and is repeatedly recognized as one of the top 10 health systems in the country.

Advocate has eight adult care hospitals with 3,500 beds and the state's largest privately held full-service home health care company among its more than 200 sites of care.

In addition to adult care, Advocate Health Care has two hospitals dedicated to the care of children and their families. Conveniently located, Advocate Hope Children's Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital provide care to children in the greater Chicago area.

In 2007 Advocate Health Care served the Chicagoland community through:

  • More than 1.2 million Chicago area residents served
  • More than 1 million hospital outpatient visits
  • More than 100,000 hospital admissions
  • More than 19,000 births
  • More than 12,000 home care admissions

More than 25,000 people work at Advocate, making it one of Chicagoland's 10 largest employers and the fourth largest in the private sector.

With more than 4,600 affiliated physicians, including almost 2,000 in physician hospital organizations (PHOs) and about 475 in three large medical groups, Advocate has Chicago's largest economically aligned physician network. Advocate maintains master academic and teaching affiliation with the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, Midwestern University, and Rosalind Franklin University.

In regard to research, Advocate Health Care has:

  • a single, internal Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • centralized Clinical Trials Offices for Adult and Pediatric Research
  • certified research personnel

Centralized research offices, along with a single internal IRB, provides sponsors with a single contact through which to develop multiple sites, facilitates the collection of data, and expedites the completion of protocols.

In our continuing commitment to provide quality services, all Advocate Health Care personnel involved in the conduct of research are minimally required to complete computer-based ethics training through the NIH Office of Human Subjects Research.

If you represent a pharmaceutical or device company looking for clinical trials sites, we encourage you to contact Christopher Blair, CCRP or Nancy Davis, MA, Directors of Research Services.
