Advocate Christ Medical Center Advocate Christ Medical Center is located in Oak Lawn, Illinois, about 13 miles from downtown Chicago. The largest private hospital in Illinois based on admissions, Christ Medical Center is the tertiary referral center for Chicagos southwestern suburbs. More than 900 physicians representing over 60 specialties and subspecialties comprise the hospitals comprehensive medical staff. Since opening in 1961 as a 195-bed community hospital, Christ Medical Center has grown to a 662-bed medical center offering the highest level of specialty care available. The hospital supports postgraduate training in emergency medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, internal medicine, family practice, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, pediatric cardiology and pediatric intensive care. Fully approved by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Christ Medical Center is part of Advocate Health Care. The Emergency Department at Christ Medical Center was built in 1991 with 26 treatment rooms for 30 patients. It was expanded in 1998 with 16 additional roomseight in the emergency cardiac center and eight in the pediatric emergency/quick care center. Christ Medical Center is designated a Level I trauma center by the state of Illinoisone of six Level I trauma centers in the Chicago area. The only Level I trauma center on Chicagos South Side, Christ Medical Center receives more Level I trauma patients than any other hospital in Illinois. Christ Medical Center also is a Level 1 pediatric trauma center, so the hospital receives pediatric patients requiring the most advanced care. Critical care is provided in state-of-the-art cardiac, medical, surgical, neurological, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units and several telemetry units. Other specialty areas at Christ Medical Center include: obstetrical services that rank among the busiest in the state; the broadly accredited physical medicine and rehabilitation program; one of the states leading oncology programs in terms of primary cancer diagnoses; and comprehensive adult and pediatric cardiovascular servicese. Christ Medical Center consistently ranks among the top organ, tissue and eye donors in Illinois. Hope Childrens Hospital, the first childrens hospital built in the Chicago area in nearly 30 years, opened in November 1996 on the campus of Christ Medical Center. The state-of-the-art facility includes 45 private inpatient rooms and a 15-bed pediatric intensive care unit. It is a leading center for pediatric cardiology and critical care. |
