Emergency Medicine Residency Program |
A Message from the Program Directors The emergency medicine department is proud to have developed a superior, resident-friendly environment for post-graduate training. The successful keys to this environment are our patients, residents, faculty, facility and system. The primary reason for our success is our people. Our patient mix is nearly perfect. Our emergency department is a high-volume, high-acuity, Level I trauma center with patients coming from both suburban and urban settings. There is an excellent distribution of patients by age and presenting problem. Our faculty and residents are talented, motivated and work together in a collegial, cooperative manner. Our teaching philosophy is that patient management is best-learned in the clinical setting, with the patient still present. Also, the better the faculty learns a resident’s abilities, the faster the resident can master the art and science of emergency medicine. When our graduates reminisce about their residency experience here, they say their training was superb and enjoyable. The camaraderie produced lifelong friends. Their three years were filled with fond memories and amazing tales, underscored by quality and excellence. Robert C. Harwood, M.D., M.P.H. Daniel V. Girzadas, Jr., M.D. |
